I've been playing with delicious for about a week now.
Why am I playing with delicious? Am I abandoning my linkblog?
Well, these days, I find myself working longer and longer hours. I typically speed read my feeds with Bloglines at work and clip those which I wish to read and later send to my linkblog when I get home. Then I delete those clips after updating my linkblog.
But because I've been working longer hours, I find that I do not want to spend time with the Bloglines Clip Folder when I get home around 2100 hours and the number of items in one of my clip folders must now be close to 200 by now, those items are dangerously close to not seeing the light of day.
In addition, bloglines wasn't really equipped to handle that many clips and in addition to my 369 subscriptions, its performance is sluggish particularly at home where I am on dialup.
In order to free up the load on my clip folder, I will transfer existing clips to my delicious bookmarks over the next few weeks and use delicious as a staging area. Except that I will not be deleting the items when I am done.
I set myself the goal of transferring my weblog to WordPress by the end of the year but unfortunately, work and exam commitments mean that I am unable to find the time to hack WordPress as I see fit.
The main issue is how to integrate my linkblog into WordPress. I have tried Recent Links but it offers no categories and I don't really wish to clutter my blog with links like Photo Matt's blog.
The delicious way of tagging links meets my needs but unless someone has already done this, I need to think of a way to integrate the tagging system into my future WordPress blog. Ideally, I wish to host the bookmarks on my own server.
In the mean time, I will continue to play with delicious and my linkblog will still be around (though it will always lag).
